2Reliabity & Durability Issues with the AVR3808Jul 27, 2010
After two years, my unit began losing sync with my Samsung TV. Was puzzled for awhile whether it was the Denon Receiver -or- my DirecTV Satellite receiver, but upon total failure of my Denon I discovered my DirecTV receiver is just fine.

While Denon products are nice (i.e. lots of features), there is a steep learning curve and having had mine only 2 years before it rolled over dead (i.e. no sound or video output via ANY connection) I think they are overpriced for what they offer.(i.e. costs $800/year to operate in my situation)

I have now swapped over to Emotiva products (UMC-1 & UPA-7) which carry a FIVE YEAR FACTORY WARRANTY and have been quite pleased with their products.

5Solidly DenonMay 03, 2010
I have used a Denon AVR 4800 for some years and wanted to upgrade for uncompressed audio and video switching through HDMI. Shipment came promptly in great condition and this receiver rocks just as hard as its predecessors did. Receivers have so many features that they are never easy to use but once you get it set up you are rewarded with some great home theater sound with Blu-ray disks. 1080P video switching works great.

4Good Unit but delicateApr 08, 2010
This is a nice unit.

I like: The dual video output (TV + Projector), the two zone (inside and out), the large number of inputs, the PC interface (very basic but does the job), the internet radio, the sound quality, the automatic speaker calibration...

The only issue I had with it is that it died after a couple of months (apparently due to a faulty speaker - the 3 year old Marantz I used during the repair did not died even if connected to the same speaker system). Took over 2 months to have it fixed by the authorized center (apparently lot of demands for the dead board). But at least it was covered.

To sum up, lot of features, but delicate and slow service.
But still, overall I love it (Service is not a big deal when you have replacement and that it is free).

5Great Receiver! Lots of features a.nd great audio qualityApr 03, 2010
I purchased the Denon AVR 3808CI over a year ago a I have been very happy with its features, performance, and quality of audio. There are only good things to say about this receiver. The GUI, graphic user interface, is easy to navigate. The network capabilities of this unit are out of this world. I currently store all my music on a HP Windows Home Server and the Denon connects effortlessly into the server. Best of all, you can control your Denon from a Web Browser from the convenience of your laptop. The Denon has great features for iPOD users with an iPOD dock for Denon receivers. Also, I found a great iPod app to allow me to control the receiver's on/off, volume, and device selection. I am not an audio buff but from hearing other receivers, the surround sound and general music audio capabilities of the 3808 are great. Not to mention I connect almost every device into the receiver, including my media PC with no problems. MP3s sound great through the receiver including Network Music and Podcasts that I can easily browse and access through the Denons easy to use menu system. Overall, great product and features for the price.

3Too complicatedDec 20, 2009
I have used this receiver for two years. It sounds great, performs well, and has more features than anyone will ever use. But it is so painfully difficult to use that I do not recommend it to anyone who is not willing to spend at least two semesters of hard study at Denon U. Just changing bass, treble, balance, or anything else that should be very basic will have you reach for the manual, and then good luck. Many times I have given up and just call tech support. At least it's an 800 number, and you usually don't wait longer than 15 minutes. Could save you hours trying to figure it out yourself.
