 Good for starters but would love more featuresJul 24, 2010
If you are trying to venture into the photography world with SLRs this is absolutely recommended. The Image quality is just amazing. Although this camera is just a step into SLR photography I would have atleast loved to have some basic features like:
* Video recording
* Higher resolution support (6MP doesnt suffice hunger of a passionate photographer)

I LOVE this camera. This is my first DSLR camera. I have only used Kodak digital cameras before this. I am in LOVE with this camera. I am still learning but just from using auto the pictures I take are just amazing. I was between this camera and the D5000. I did some research on KenRockwell.Com and he said this was the perfect learning camera and it is. I have since bought an SB400 flash and some lenses and am loving the camera.

Good step up from the point and shootJul 02, 2010
This camera is a great introduction to a multifunction camera as opposed to a point and shoot digital. I have the convenience of a point and shoot if I want it or I can change a few settings and have more creative control of the images taken. The camera is capable of taking images small enough to readily transmit over the web and of high enough quality to make a really good print image. With a few inexpensive memory cards and an extra battery even the most avid shutterbug can take a day's worth of images without much hassle. My only complaint is that the one lens which came with the kit is somewhat limited. One needs to plan on buying at least one or two additional lenses to meet their individual needs. Overall I think that this is a great camera for the money and does everything that I, a nonprofessional photographer, need a camera to do.

If you're new to DSLR's, you'll love how much there is to learn with this camera. Shutter speeds and apature settings are some of the fun things to play with. These are the most notice features in my opinion that you won't find on your typical point and shoot camera. The ability to take picture in the dark without the flash and get nice rich color with low shutter speeds is just amazing to me! On top of that you can also make really cool pictures with interesting blur effects with different shutter settings.
This camera is a lot of fun and can instantly make any person seem like a photographer based solely on the quality of the shots you will get.
